Domenica | New Orleans, LA

Domenica New Orleans

we had domenica on our radar but were on the fence about coming here because we had so many other places to try. our friend recommended only coming here for happy hour (2pm-5pm) since all their pizzas are 50% off! we’re in!

we ordered:

  • margherita pizza – tomato, basil, fresh mozzarella
  • tutto carne pizza – bacon, fennel sausage, salumi, prosciutto cutto

all wines by the glass, beers and certain cocktails are also half-priced.

Domenica New Orleans

pizzas are pretty big and with 50% off, they run about $6-8! we ordered two for the four of us and it was plenty! awesome deal, right?

the pizzas are tasty! the crust could be a little crispier but still good. we liked the marg but liked the fennel sausage even more!

  • atmosphere: beautiful, modern space. high ceilings, dark accents with great light fixtures.
  • service: our waitress was great! extremely friendly and helpful!
  • overall: come here for happy hour and eat a ton of pizza and drink a lot of bellinis!

Whipp’d LA | West Hollywood, CA

so katy. not only is she my best friend, she is also my favorite person to eat dessert with! our common ground: we eat less of our dinner to make sure we had room for dessert. and! we have dessert with every meal. #strong

she introduced me to whipp’d la since it has non-dairy options! (for those who are lactose intolerant and still love to eat ice cream).

the dole pineapple whip and vanilla swirl… one of those things that just changes your life forever. (i’ll give you a moment to absorb that statement)

dole whip (the kind you get at disneyland near indiana jones) is delicious pineapple ice cream/fro-yo with a fluffy, light texture. the vanilla is so good, you wouldn’t realize it’s non dairy. they are so good together. especially in a freshly made waffle cone. the vanilla is a must so that it cuts some of the tartness from the pineapple. trust me on this.

i’ve tried nothing else here. since the pineapple vanilla swirl is such a winner.

Whipp'd LA

  • service: obviously awesome
  • parking: small parking lot in the back (entrance off of fairfax)! if there aren’t available spaces, good luck with metered street parking.
  • overall: a gem in la that i don’t think gets enough attention. i recommend this place to anyone and everyone. enjoy!

Amy’s Bread | New York City

this will be short and sweet. this is lauren’s favorite, favorite bakery in nyc. when someone tells me something is their absolute favorite, i take it seriously (especially if it is in a city full of awesome eating options). her favorite thing here: the black and white cake.

but since i don’t eat chocolate, we asked the cashier which was better: the coconut cake or the carrot cake. no hesitation: “coconut cake hands down” i love when people don’t hesitate because they are that sure.

Amy's Bread NYC

have i told you i have been obsessing over coconut cake ever since i tried the famous coconut cake in pebble beach? well it was my favorite coconut cake until this. yep.

why? the cake is extremely moist. probably the moistest (moist is not my favorite word but i cant think of a better word to use here) cake i have ever had. not the soggy kinda moist… the perfectly fluffy kinda moist. the coconut frosting just adds to its greatness. not too sweet (a big rating factor for me).

Amy's Bread NYC

i have now added this to one my favorite bakeries. alright new york, you win this one.

ps. i visit this bakery every time i visit nyc now. of the two locations i have been to (chelsea and west village), my favorite is the one in chelsea since it has more options.

On The Thirty | Sherman Oaks, CA

IMG_8925a1

there are a few gastropubs that opened up in sherman oaks! on the thirty is one of the ones we placed on our list.

came here celebrating jrod’s birthday. since he’s a beer guy, i thought this place was perfect! what we ordered:

  • big mista’s sweet n spicy wings
  • filet pizza – marinara, mozzarella, garlic bourbon marinated filet mignon, caramelized onions, and sriracha
  • amaze balls – potato, cheese, cream cheese, jalapeño, bacon, panko crusted. served with a basil aioli.
  • white truffle fries

On The Thirty Sherman Oaks

the wings are the bomb dot com. we were told that this was the one thing we had to order. great recommendation!

ohh the pizza! sriracha on a pizza? yes, please! super tasty and everything we wanted it to be.

On The Thirty Sherman Oaks On The Thirty Sherman Oaks

the amazeballs were also good! pretty presentation, huh? fries weren’t too truffley. we thought they were good.

On The Thirty Sherman Oaks

  • service: we loved our waitress. she was uber friendly and gave solid recommendations. staff in general was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. the owner (didn’t get his name) is freaking awesome and very welcoming. he was the one who urged us to get the wings. in his words, he would put his wings up against anyone in la. bold, right? i like bold.
  • parking: we came here on a labor day and didn’t have an issue finding parking on ventura blvd. meters only allow for 2 hours so just make sure you set a timer.
  • ambience: high ceilings. high booths. a little on the dark side but an outdoor patio is available. we actually sat near the window so we enjoyed the benefits of sunlight without the heat (90 degrees that day) outside. nice looking bar with a number of flat screen tvs for your viewing pleasure.
  • overall: i’ve been recommending this to everyone. i’m confident that it will do well in sherman oaks. beer selection is solid. food is great (definitely the better gastropubs out there right now). flat screen tvs. air conditioning. how do you not fall in love with this place?

Russ & Daughters | New York City

Russ & Daughters New York

this is our second time at russ & daughters. our first time included a torrential pour and a lot of happiness… leading us to come back here for our mandatory new york bagel part deux.

we like to get to russ & daughters early since it gets relatively packed. it’s located on the lower east side, near katz’s delicatessen.

Russ & Daughters New York

although there are a quite a number of options (a ton of different style lox and a bajillion types of cream cheese), we go for the popular: smoked salmon (not even sure which one we get), scallion cream cheese, red onions, and tomato on an onion bagel.

Russ & Daughters New York Russ & Daughters New York Russ & Daughters New York Russ & Daughters New York

so much salmon…

Russ & Daughters New York

  • ambience: this is a market. so there aren’t any tables or chairs inside. there’s a nice bench right outside in case you want to enjoy your bagel in the sun. also, since it is a seafood market… it will smell fishy. this is a heads up to those who don’t do well in fishy settings.
  • service: you grab a number and wait to be called. my suggestion is to figure out what you want while you are waiting. don’t be that person who is indecisive and holds up the line. you will get some eye rolls.
  • our verdict: the smoked salmon with scallion cream cheese – delicious! however, the bagel itself is not as soft as we wanted it to be (the bagel at murray’s is better). my ideal bagel would be lox from russ & daughters and an onion bagel from murrays. just sayin’.
