we received an email from yelp titled “lobster roll roundup.” guess who was the first on their list?! son of a gun! we went there awhile back and fell in love with their #1 lobster roll and #2 fried chicken sandwich! ever since then, we like to compare any consumed lobster rolls to our experience at son of a gun. enter the yelp email which listed hungry cat as #2. we had to go there:
firstly, the lobster roll is ONLY available for lunch. verdict: it was ok. son of a gun is better. the pug burger was also just ok. as shown in the picture above, it was not a eater friendly burger (stacked way too high for even my big mouthed hubby). would we go here again? probably not. with that said, it was one of those restaurants we had on our list on yelp. happy eatings.

Yesterday my friends and I had the worst dining experience 7/14/13. THE WORST! We were there for the annual blue crab feast, where I should mention it is $75 per person plus tax and tip ($(95.25). My friend is from Maryland and has been talking about this event for 6 months now because you can only get Maryland blue crab during crab season, he made the reservation and paid in advance for two,( We all paid in advance, that was the only way to reserve a ticket ) They promised a Maryland Blue Crab feast with 6 courses, and all you can eat steamed whole crabs. First of all, our reservation was for 7pm. Our whole party arrived early, 6:45 and where told it would be a few moments, so we stand outside and ordered some drinks. Well, that turned out to be over an hour….We sat down around 8 pm, finally. All starving, but we where in good spirits and excited to stuff our faces! We were given the first course, which was a crab cake, but then a minute later our waiter comes back to tell us that they ran out of crabs…YES, ran out. To top it off, he says they will refund us HALF of our check. Half? Well, we were all in an uproar and demanded to talk to a manager. It was at least 15-20 minutes,i had to get up, and got this manager my self,( Patrick ). He was slightly apologetic and said they would refund us the full amount paid in advance, and he took our credit cards to take care of it. Well, he didn’t come back for another 15-20 min!, Meanwhile, we already spent over $200.00 for drinks, He never had the intention, to try to accommodate us with any option . no one has eaten and not one single employee in this establishment tried to make the situation any better. No one offered us food or drinks or anything! The real kicker is that some other manager comes over during this time and decides she is going to make the situation better by saying we can have a full refund, or a GIFT CARD???…what the hell?!? GIFT CARD?! WE ARE NEVER coming back here again! Well, to make a long story longer, we finally got our refunds, it is now 9:30pm, and we are all starving. I don’t understand how you can make people prepay for an event, and then not deliver, and not even try to make it better. It was just ridiculous, and so disappointing. You would think that when you are forking over $100 per person NOT including drinks that you would be treated a little better. Oh well, never again.
Lol this sounds like the dinner from hell! Sucks that you had to go through this… Hungry cat is pretty pricey… I agree with you… I probably will never go back there either. I thought it was just ok.

There’s a location in downtown Long Beach that has a pretty amazing lobster roll. Pier 76.
